Delete your data
Leaving should be as easy as joining. You can export everything you have made, delete individual posts, take a break without losing your handle, or wipe the account entirely, and this page tells you exactly what happens to each kind of data when you do.

1. Your options at a glance
| Option | What it does | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|
| Download your data | Get a copy of everything, keep the account. | N/A |
| Delete specific content | Removes chosen posts, designs or playlists. | No |
| Deactivate | Hides your profile and content; handle is reserved. | Yes, sign back in. |
| Delete account | Removes the account and all content. | Only within the 14-day grace period. |
2. Download your data
Go to Settings → Privacy → Download your data. Your export includes:
- Posts, articles, images and videos at original quality.
- Comments, likes and saved items.
- Creative Studio projects, exported in an editable format.
- Playlists and listening history.
- Your résumé, professional profile and referral history.
- Direct messages you sent.
- Account and login history, and your settings.
We build the archive within 7 days and email you a private download link that expires after 14 days. Large libraries arrive split into parts.
3. Delete individual content
Every post, comment, design and playlist has a delete option. Deleted items disappear from your profile and from other people’s feeds immediately, and are purged from our live systems within 30 days.
One caveat worth knowing: if someone reposted, remixed or downloaded your content while it was public, their copy is theirs to delete. Ask them, or use a copyright notice if they had no right to it.
4. Deactivate instead of deleting
Deactivation hides your profile, posts and comments from everyone, stops all notifications, and keeps your handle reserved for you. Nothing is deleted. Sign back in whenever you want and everything returns as it was. If you want a break rather than an exit, choose this.
5. Delete your account
- Export your data first if you want to keep it. After deletion we cannot recover it.
- Go to Settings → Account → Delete account.
- Confirm with your password or a one-time code.
- Your account enters a 14-day grace period. It is hidden from everyone immediately. Sign in during those 14 days to cancel.
- After 14 days, deletion runs: content is removed from live systems within 30 days and from encrypted backups within 90 days.
6. What happens to each kind of data
| Data | On account deletion |
|---|---|
| Posts, images, videos, articles | Removed at once, purged within 30 days. |
| Creative Studio projects and uploaded assets | Purged within 30 days. |
| Playlists and listening history | Purged within 30 days. |
| Résumé and professional profile | Purged within 30 days. Copies already sent to an employer at your request are theirs; contact them directly. |
| Direct messages | Your copy is deleted. Messages you sent may remain visible in the recipient’s inbox, as on any messaging service. |
| Comments on other people’s posts | Deleted along with the account. |
| Prompt history for AI features | Deleted at once. |
| Analytics | Already aggregated and de-identified; cannot be tied back to you. |
| Backups | Overwritten on the normal rotation, fully purged within 90 days. |
7. The small amount we must keep
A few records survive deletion because the law requires it or because deleting them would put other people at risk:
- Transaction and tax records: retained as long as accounting law requires, typically 7 years in the United States.
- Safety and enforcement records: reports made against the account, and ban-evasion signals, for up to 3 years so a removed offender cannot simply start again. This is a minimal record, not your content.
- Child-safety and unlawful-content records: preserved where we are legally obliged to.
- Active legal holds: data subject to a valid preservation order.
